In an era where automotive OEMs are increasingly locking basic convenience features behind monthly subscriptions, Stellantis is pivoting its strategy. For the 2027 model year, the parent company of Jeep, Ram, Dodge, Chrysler, Fiat, and Alfa Romeo is restructuring its connected services to lower the barrier for users.

Breaking the Remote Start Paywall

The most significant change is the inclusion of remote engine start/stop via the mobile app into the complimentary Connect One tier. This feature will now be free for 10 years on most 2027 vehicles. By removing the subscription requirement for a high-demand convenience feature, Stellantis aims to differentiate itself from competitors who treat hardware capabilities as recurring revenue streams.

More Affordable In-Car Connectivity

The company is also adjusting the pricing for its Connect Wi-Fi Plus package. The monthly cost for an unlimited data hotspot—supporting up to eight devices—has been reduced to $15.99, complemented by a three-month free trial. Beyond internet access, this tier includes essential security and utility features such as stolen vehicle assistance and remote horn/light activation.

The Broader Tech Vision: AI and Autonomy

These pricing adjustments are part of a larger technological overhaul. Stellantis is aggressively pursuing AI integration, notably through its partnership with Wayve to advance a new generation of AI-powered driving for door-to-door, hands-free journeys. The goal is to transition from simple connectivity to a truly intelligent vehicle ecosystem.

Strategic Market Positioning

This shift comes as Stellantis executes a massive investment plan, intending to launch 60 new vehicles and 50 refreshes by 2030. By making connected tech more accessible, the group is positioning itself to fight the trend of rising vehicle prices and the increasing pressure from affordable Chinese EV manufacturers. It is a calculated move to improve brand loyalty and perceived value in an increasingly software-defined automotive landscape.
