The website collects the following categories of data:

2.1 Browsing data

During normal operation, the computer systems and software procedures used to operate the site acquire certain personal data whose transmission is implicit in the use of Internet communication protocols. This information is not collected to be associated with identified individuals, but could, by its very nature, through processing and association with data held by third parties, allow users to be identified. This category includes: IP addresses, browser type, operating system, pages visited, time of visit.

2.2 Data voluntarily provided by the user

The optional, explicit, and voluntary sending of communications through the contact addresses listed on this site entails the subsequent acquisition of the sender's email address, necessary to respond to requests, as well as any other personal data included in the communication.

2.3 Analytical data

Through the Matomo platform (configured with IP anonymization), aggregated and anonymous browsing behavior data is collected, as described in the Cookie Policy.

2.4 Push notifications (optional)

If you turn on notifications from the bell icon and grant permission in your browser, we store on our servers the technical push subscription identifier (the endpoint provided by your browser), your chosen language and the subscription date. We do not collect your name, email or other identifying data; the endpoint is still a pseudonymous browser identifier. The messages we send contain no personal content: they only tell you that new stories are out.

The collected data is processed for the following purposes:

a) To provide and ensure the proper functioning of the website and its services
b) To respond to contact requests received via email
c) To analyze site usage in aggregate and anonymous form to improve content and user experience (via Matomo with anonymized IP)

e) To send push notifications about new publications, only to users who request them

6. Data recipients

Personal data collected is not disclosed to third parties, except to comply with legal obligations or to protect the rights of the data controller. Analytical data collected via Matomo is processed exclusively on servers owned by the controller and is not shared with third parties.

For push notifications, messages are delivered through your browser's notification service (Google Firebase Cloud Messaging for Chrome and Android, Mozilla for Firefox, Apple for Safari, Microsoft for Edge), to which our server sends the subscription endpoint and a message with no personal content.

Data is stored on servers located within the European Union (Aruba S.p.A., Italy). No data transfers to third countries outside the EEA are envisaged, except for push notifications: browser vendors' notification services may process the endpoint in third countries (e.g. the United States) under their own policies and safeguards.

8. Data retention period

Anonymous browsing data collected via Matomo is retained for a maximum period of 13 months. Session cookies are deleted when the browser is closed. Email communications are retained for the time necessary to process the request and in any case no longer than 24 months. Push subscriptions are kept until you turn notifications off or until the notification service reports that the endpoint is no longer valid, after which they are deleted.

9. Data subject rights

Under EU Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR), the user has the right to:

Access — obtain confirmation as to whether or not personal data concerning them exists and receive communication thereof
Rectification — obtain the correction of inaccurate personal data concerning them
Erasure (right to be forgotten) — obtain the deletion of personal data concerning them
Restriction — obtain restriction of processing of their data
Data portability — receive data in a structured, readable format
Objection — object to the processing of data for reasons relating to their particular situation

Consent to push notifications can be withdrawn at any time by switching off the toggle in the bell panel or in your browser's notification settings: the subscription is then deleted from our servers.
