Sandfall Interactive is currently evaluating the possibility of bringing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 to the Nintendo Switch 2, though the studio warns that significant hardware limitations make this a daunting technical undertaking.
The Unreal Engine 5 Hurdle
The core of the problem lies in the game's technical foundation. Built on Unreal Engine 5, the title was designed for high-end hardware like PS5 and Xbox Series X. Tom Guillermin, CTO of Sandfall Interactive, noted that many UE5 features simply do not function on the Switch 2. To bridge this gap, the team is looking toward Epic Games' rollout of Lumen Lite, a more efficient version of the standard Lumen lighting system designed for lower-spec hardware.

Studio Scale vs. Technical Scope
The complexity of the port is amplified by the studio's size. With a core team of only 30 people, Sandfall Interactive faces a steep climb in terms of the heavy optimization required. Despite an impressive commercial start — selling one million copies within three days — and critical acclaim, the team must balance their ambitions with the reality of their limited manpower.
Release Timeline Remains Vague
There is currently no set release date. CEO Guillaume Broche expressed a strong desire to find a way onto the Nintendo platform but emphasized that it is too early for any official announcement. While other major titles have already secured their spots on the upcoming console, Expedition 33's arrival depends entirely on how well Unreal Engine updates can adapt to Nintendo's specific hardware constraints.
