During the latest Nintendo Direct, Square Enix revealed that Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- Reunion is now available on the eShop for Nintendo Switch 2. The title, which previously debuted on the original Switch in December 2022, arrives as a technical upgrade rather than a simple port.
Technical enhancements and pricing
The Switch 2 version features a complete HD graphics overhaul affecting character models, the user interface, and backgrounds. Beyond the visual update, Square Enix has implemented an updated action combat system and a newly arranged soundtrack by original composer Takeharu Ishimoto. The game also includes fully voiced dialogue in both English and Japanese.
The title is currently available at a discounted price of $34.99, reduced from the standard $49.99. However, Square Enix has confirmed that there is no upgrade path for existing owners of the original Switch version.
Integration with the FFVII Universe
This release coincides with a broader push for the franchise on Nintendo's new hardware. Digital pre-orders have now gone live for Final Fantasy VII Revelation on Switch 2, following previous reports regarding its development using Unreal Engine 4 to accelerate the release. For those purchasing the Premium or Premium Plus Editions of Revelation, a 24-hour early access window will be available.
The arrival of this prequel adds to a growing library of Square Enix titles on the platform, following the launch of Final Fantasy XIV Online and the optimized versions of Octopath Traveler I and II.
