Unlike Yuanbao, Tencent's previous standalone chatbot, Xiaowei is envisioned as a full-fledged AI agent rather than just a conversational partner. Deep Integration with Mini-Programs
The core strength of Xiaowei lies in its ability to leverage WeChat's extensive library of mini-programs. Technically, it relies primarily on Weixin's proprietary large language model while incorporating DeepSeek for specific queries.
Roadmap and Market Impact
Currently in limited testing—with some users reporting a green "little eye" icon on their interface—Tencent is targeting a full public rollout in the third quarter. The strategy of embedding AI into an app already used by approximately 1.4 billion people has sparked significant investor interest, with Tencent's shares reportedly surging up to 10.5% on the news.
