New Metro Areas and Operational Scope
The initial wave of new locations includes Chicago, Syracuse, Cleveland, Atlanta, and Boise. Each Prime Air site covers an area of approximately 175 square miles, focusing on packages weighing 5 pounds or less. Amazon emphasizes its "Detect-and-Avoid" safety system, a critical feature as the company seeks to address community concerns following previous incidents involving infrastructure and private property.
From Concept to Mass Service
This milestone arrives more than a decade after Jeff Bezos first demonstrated drone delivery concepts. CEO Andy Jassy has highlighted the strategic importance of this logistics channel in his annual shareholder letter, positioning it as a key component of Amazon's future transport mix. Safety and Community Acceptance
Despite technological advancements, local acceptance remains a hurdle.
