Market Shift and Geographic Expansion

While the overall figure is strong, the traditional "EU5" markets (UK, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy) saw a 4% year-on-year decline, dropping to €25.7 billion. Germany remains the largest single market, contributing €6.5 billion. To better capture the industry's evolving landscape, VGE expanded its reporting from five to 16 countries, adding markets such as Poland, Sweden, and Switzerland.

Platform Dominance and Top Titles

Mobile devices and tablets continue to lead the market with an 82% usage rate, generating nearly half of all revenue. In terms of software, Electronic Arts dominated the console charts with EA Sports FC26 and FC25, while Battlefield 6 topped the PC charts. Rockstar Games' legacy titles, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto 5, remain top performers on PC, maintaining strong sales ahead of the highly anticipated launch of GTA VI.

Player Demographics and Parental Oversight

Europe now boasts 199 million gamers, with women making up 46% (91.5 million) of the population. However, average weekly playtime has dipped to 8.39 hours, down from 9.4 hours in 2024.

There is also a significant trend toward stricter parental control. 79% of parents use family setting tools to monitor or limit gameplay, and 75% prefer active involvement in setting restrictions. This increased oversight is reflected in spending habits, as average in-game purchases by children have decreased by 13% since 2024.
