Fibocom presented at NetworkX 2026 in Vienna the FG390-MEA-30 variant of its 5G-A fixed wireless access (FWA) module. The new model supports the upper 6 GHz band, known as U6G, and carrier aggregation between this band and sub-6 GHz frequencies already in use, with the goal of reaching download speeds of up to 10 Gbps.

The module is built on the MediaTek T930 platform, compliant with 3GPP Release 18. According to Fibocom, combining the bands increases throughput while keeping the connection stable. The indicated combinations are CA_n41A-n104A and CA_n78A-n104A.

The U6G band spans 6,425 to 7,125 MHz, with about 700 MHz of contiguous spectrum. According to the company's technical data, this extra space serves to increase network capacity and speed. The module is designed for CPE routers, outdoor ODU units and enterprise gateways.

From trials to commercial networks

U6G is moving out of technical validation. According to the press release, UAE operator e& has launched a commercial network in this band, while a Chinese operator demonstrated downlink throughput above 10 Gbps. European operators are running 6 GHz trials, and markets in Latin America and Central Asia are testing on live networks.

For device makers, ready-made modules shorten certification and development times for finished products. MediaTek, which took part in the launch, says the T930 handles traffic between the 5G network and Ethernet or Wi-Fi ports without involving the CPU, with higher energy efficiency.

Timelines for devices reaching customers' homes and usage conditions in Italy remain unclear, since the upper 6 GHz band is not yet assigned to operators there.
