Director Naoki Hamaguchi, speaking with 4Gamer (via 80 Level), explained that the decision was driven by business and player perspectives. Since the team had already developed extensive custom solutions within UE4, rebuilding those systems in UE5 would have significantly delayed the game's release. By sticking with the established engine, Square Enix can ensure a more efficient development cycle.

Achieving Nanite-Level Visuals

Despite the absence of UE5, the visual fidelity remains a priority. Hamaguchi noted that during the development of Rebirth, the team engineered custom rendering systems designed to emulate the quality of Nanite, UE5's high-detail geometry technology. This allows Revelation to deliver a visual experience comparable to the latest engine standards without the overhead of a full migration.

Release Window and Platforms

Unveiled at the 2026 Summer Game Fest, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is scheduled for release in Spring 2027. The game will launch across all major platforms, including PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Beyond the technical architecture, the finale is expected to introduce advanced Synergy Skills and provide a definitive conclusion to the remake saga.
