Dual-bar layout and AI accessibility
The new UI splits controls between a slim top bar—containing the URL, share button, and overflow menu—and a thicker bottom bar. This lower section now houses a dedicated Gemini shortcut alongside tab management and the 'New Tab' button. While Chrome still supports a full bottom-bar configuration, the increased thickness is necessary to accommodate the AI trigger.

Gradual rollout and agentic evolution
The deployment is currently slow, appearing for some users in the stable channel via server-side updates. This shift aligns with Google's broader strategy to replace legacy tools with AI, as Gemini becomes the primary assistant across Android.
Beyond UI changes, Google is pushing 'agentic' capabilities into its apps. While Chrome users in the US can access Spark—an AI tool capable of using saved passwords to book tickets or manage accounts for AI Pro ($19.99/mo) and Ultra ($99.99/mo) subscribers—Google Maps has added the ability to order meals and track real-time transit delays through its Gemini-powered 'Ask Maps' feature.
