Google's November 2026 release notes list a long-awaited feature: automatic backup of photos and videos from Android phones to Windows PCs via Quick Share. The entry appears in Google Play services v26.43 and is tagged for both phones and PCs. It is a single line with no technical detail, but it is the first official confirmation of a feature we have been tracking for months.
The feature first surfaced in April in Quick Share settings, where it was described as a way to copy photos, videos and audio from a phone to a PC on the same home network. In July, Android Authority found signs that Samsung phones would be excluded, and in October a further check of the code showed the restriction extending to Samsung PCs as well.
Reconstructed from strings in Google Play services, setup starts in the Quick Share app for Windows. Phone and computer must stay nearby and be signed in to the same Google Account. Quick Share then saves photos and videos to the PC automatically, with no cables and no cloud subscription. Google's notes say nothing about Samsung exclusions, so whether the final release keeps them remains to be seen.
If you want to try it, keep in mind that Google Play services updates roll out gradually, so the feature may not appear on your phone right after installation. It is also worth making sure the Quick Share app on your PC is up to date.
