Huawei is aggressively expanding OLED technology across its tablet lineup, moving beyond the Pro series to standardize high-end displays. According to leaks from tipster Digital Chat Station, a China-specific version of the MatePad Air (2026) is in the works, replacing the IPS LCD panel with an OLED display.

2.8K Resolution and Kirin T93 Power

The Chinese variant of the MatePad Air will feature a 12-inch OLED panel with a 2.8K resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. While the screen technology changes, the physical footprint remains identical to the global model released in July: a 5.3mm profile, weighing 509 grams, and powered by a 10,100mAh battery. Internally, it will utilize a Kirin T93 series chip, which is reported to be a more powerful iteration than the Kirin T93C found in international versions.

MatePad Mini 2 OLED Upgrade

The shift to OLED extends to the smaller form factor as well. Reports indicate that the second-generation MatePad Mini is also receiving an OLED upgrade. While Huawei has not confirmed a release date, the leak suggests development is further along than previously thought. This move puts Huawei ahead of some competitors' timelines, particularly as Apple is rumored to bring OLEDs to its mini tablets closer to 2027.

Ecosystem Synergy and MatePad Pro 12"

The China launch of the Air is expected in September, coinciding with the global unveiling of the MatePad Pro 12" in Munich. The Pro model will push boundaries further with a 4.7mm thickness, weighing only 454 grams, and featuring the anti-glare PaperMatte OLED screen. By integrating OLEDs into the Air and Mini lines, Huawei is mirroring its strategy with laptops like the MateBook Pro S, ensuring that high-contrast, energy-efficient displays are a hallmark of its premium ecosystem.

This standardization suggests Huawei is prioritizing visual fidelity and power efficiency to challenge the dominance of established tablet leaders in both productivity and media consumption segments.
