Huawei has officially launched the FreeBuds Neo globally, focusing on an ultra-compact form factor and adaptive noise management. The earbuds are powered by a third-generation audio chip that adjusts active noise cancellation (ANC) in milliseconds, specifically designed to mitigate the sudden pressure changes often felt with ANC earbuds as ambient noise shifts.
30dB ANC and Turbo Drivers for Lossless Audio
The dual-channel noise cancellation system targets medium and high-frequency sounds, such as wind and background chatter, providing up to 30 dB of noise reduction. For audio quality, the FreeBuds Neo feature a "Turbo driver" with an 11mm polymer composite dynamic diaphragm and a multi-port vent system to ensure smoother movement, supporting a frequency range from 10 Hz up to 48 kHz.
In terms of connectivity, the earbuds support lossless audio transmission up to 2.3 Mbps when paired with Huawei devices; for other platforms (Android, iOS, and Windows), the rate is capped at 990 kbps. Spatial audio support remains ecosystem-agnostic, working across all major operating systems.
Light Mini Stem Ergonomics and Battery Life
Departing from the design of previous models, the Neo introduces the Light Mini Stem, which sits closer to the ear for better pressure distribution. Each bud weighs approximately 4.8 grams and is housed in a fully curved, minimalist Mini Shuttle case.
Battery life is rated at 6.5 hours per bud with ANC enabled, extending to a total of 40 hours when using the charging case. Users with Huawei smartwatches can control ANC, sound effects, and battery status via the Huawei Audio Connect app.
Pricing and Availability
The FreeBuds Neo will go on sale in the UK starting September 23 for £119.99. Huawei is also offering a £20 discount for purchases made between September 23 and October 26 through the official store, Amazon, and other select retailers.
