Amazon has brought handwritten notes to the Kindle app for Android, letting readers write directly on the pages of their ebooks. According to Android Authority, the feature appears as an on-screen notice telling users they can annotate the text with a pen. It follows the markup tools Amazon introduced on its new Alexa Tablets.
How it works. Users can choose the pen style, size and colour before writing. The text flows around the notes, so the page stays readable. Users report the feature on devices such as the Galaxy Tab S10 FE, XP-Pen Magic Note Pad, Galaxy S24, Galaxy S23 and BOOX Go 7, suggesting it depends on a set of stylus-enabled tablets and phones rather than all Android devices.
The feature comes days after Android users saw options for underlining and outlining ebook text. Together, these tools expand the annotation options available on Kindle for Android. For readers who mark books often, freeform notes can make the experience more natural without switching to a separate notes app.
Who is affected. Analytics Insight reports the handwriting feature seems reserved for stylus-supporting Android devices, and that the iPadOS version does not yet have it. Availability should be checked in the app, since the rollout appears gradual and tied to app version and device model.
What happens next. Amazon has not said whether the feature will reach other platforms or when it will arrive on all Android devices. The next thing to watch is whether support expands to more tablets and whether handwriting reaches the iPadOS app.
