Microsoft has released Sim Update 7 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, adding the National Championship Air Races, low-altitude air racing described as the world's fastest motorsport. The base expansion is free for all owners of the game and adds the Reno, Nevada and Roswell, New Mexico venues.
The paid part is the Racer Pack 1, which brings 40 famous racing aircraft into the simulator. It costs $39.99; flightnews24.de lists it at 44.19 euros in Germany. Owners of the Reno add-on for MSFS 2020 get a free upgrade for the 2024 version.

The races are organized into four pylon categories and five race classes, including Unlimited, Jet, T-6, Biplane and STOL drag. According to Neowin, these categories simulate engine wear that punishes careless throttle management, making the races more demanding for pilots who fly with realism in mind.
The update also includes bug fixes, scenery updates, aircraft-specific improvements and quality-of-life changes. Neowin also reports that free courses are included.
By separating the free expansion from the paid aircraft pack, players who are not interested in collecting aircraft can access the races at no extra cost, while those who want the circuit's most famous planes will need to buy the Racer Pack 1.
