Oppo has launched the Find X10 Pro Max, the first smartphone with three 200-megapixel rear cameras: main, telephoto and ultrawide. The usual question is whether this is a real engineering leap or marketing. Hands-on testing points to something in between. The phone is convincing, but its strengths lie elsewhere than the number on the spec sheet.
The starting point is pixel binning, which combines neighboring pixels into one. The result is more detail from small pixels and better light capture from merging them. That is why 200 MP is not mainly about taking 200 MP photos. The Find X10 Pro Max defaults to 26 megapixels on all three rear lenses, from 0.5x up to 9.9x zoom. That is unusual for Android and close to Apple's approach, which defaults to 24 MP on its 48 MP sensors.

The practical benefit is clear: 26 MP photos are more detailed and better suited to printing or cropping, at 8 to 12 MB per file. In darker scenes the phone automatically drops to 12.6 MP to capture more light. A high-resolution mode allows shooting at 50 or the full 200 MP, with files of 45 to 60 MB. According to The Verge's review, the drop in low-light performance and dynamic range in this mode is hard to notice.
The limit lies in sensor size. The main camera uses a 1/1.3-inch sensor at f/1.5, and the 3x telephoto a 1/1.56-inch sensor at f/2.1. The previous Find X9 Ultra has larger sensors and captures more light even before binning. The only clear improvement is the ultrawide, which has more resolution and a 1/1.56-inch sensor, larger than the Ultra's. The rear camera system keeps consistent quality across lenses, though colors still vary slightly between them.

The phone remains camera-centric in its design: a simple, stark body with a rear module that includes a multispectral sensor for accurate colors. Support for an external teleconverter, already seen on other Oppo flagships, completes the picture for those seeking extended zoom.
The Find X10 Pro Max ships with Android 17 and ColorOS. Pricing and international availability follow the earlier Find X10 series announcements, while the new element is a dedicated Hasselblad zoom accessory for this model.
