The RPCS3 team has announced that its PlayStation 3 emulator no longer has any games in the «Loadable» category, the one reserved for titles that, once started, show only a black screen with a framerate counter in the window title. The announcement came on X and concerns Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. 2, which moved to «Ingame» thanks to an SPU accuracy fix developed by contributor Yahfz.
The fix is technical. RPCS3 now recreates the SPU thread loader and the arguments that the PS3's LV2 kernel leaves in Local Store at the start of each SPU group, before the code image is loaded. According to the team, this stops the loader from becoming corrupted during game startup.
The Ingame status means the game starts and can be run, but it does not guarantee it is playable from start to finish. The title may still have serious glitches or poor performance, so H.A.W.X. 2 is probably not fully playable yet. The team had already announced an empty Loadable list around the turn of 2023, and the category has since refilled.
Compatibility keeps climbing
The result fits a broader improvement in compatibility. The Playable category now covers 80.07% of the PS3 library, with 2,848 playable games, up from 75% in July. There are 687 titles in Ingame and 22 in Intro, the category for games that only reach the main menu. Those still in Intro are mostly multiplayer and PS Move titles, with a few exceptions such as Need for Speed: The Run.
The project has also been in the spotlight for PlayStation 5 developments. An unofficial RPCS3 port has already launched some PS3 games on a PS5 Pro without going through Linux, and the RPS5S3 project can boot titles from physical discs, though it is still in testing.
The Loadable category was one of the last grey areas of compatibility: games that load without showing anything useful. Emptying it does not mean the PS3 is fully emulated, but it shows that every catalogued title has now reached a stage where its code runs.
