A custom campaign for Baldur's Gate 3 takes players into the universe of World of Warcraft, with an adventure that has nothing to do with Dungeons & Dragons settings. It is called Forsaken, it is free, and its first act has been released on Nexus Mods. It was made by the modder SquallyDaBeanz, who chose to tell the story of Undead beings who, freed from serving the Lich King, try to reclaim the kingdom of Lordaeron.
The protagonist is one of the Forsaken, an Undead who has just awakened and discovers they are no longer a slave to the Lich King. The player must find a place in this new world alongside other freed Undead. The modder describes the experience as hunting fierce beasts, exploring forgotten ruins, ending dark rituals, slaying zealots and discovering magical items. The campaign is designed for characters from level 1 to 5.

The setting is based on the Tirisfal Glades region, seen in both the classic and vanilla versions of World of Warcraft. The mod is deliberately disconnected from Larian's official game world, and SquallyDaBeanz says they aimed to emulate the design philosophy of World of Warcraft. The first act includes more than 20 quests across a map that the modder says is designed to feel as expansive as the Blizzard game. There are towns, settlements and dungeons to explore, though it is not as densely packed with locations and secrets as the professionally crafted areas of the original game.
The player can count on a party of up to three specially built companions: the fighter Darnell, the mage Isabella and the cleric Duesten, found at Deathknell Chapel. The modder stresses that this implementation is temporary and exists only to provide a full party for combat encounters, and that a complete overhaul is in the works but has been postponed to a future update. There are also NPCs and traders to talk to, but the current version is heavily focused on combat and fairly linear compared with the original game, a trait shared by many Baldur's Gate 3 custom campaigns still in development.

SquallyDaBeanz has not given a date for a second act. They have, however, listed planned additions for the first: more quests, class dialogue, skill checks, items, lore books, idle animations and cutscenes for some NPCs. To play, you download the main file from Nexus Mods, install it following the instructions in the mod's description, enable it through the in-game mod manager in the main menu, and start a new game.
The mod fits a trend in which the Baldur's Gate 3 community produces increasingly ambitious campaigns while the game keeps selling: as AlexTech reported, Baldur's Gate 3 has passed 23 million copies sold, with estimated revenues above $1.2 billion. Warcraft's universe also recurs in modders' projects, as in a World of Warcraft server built so language models can play from the browser.
