Steam Deck can now show the Xbox Series X|S interface in place of Steam's Home screen. The change comes from Decky Xbox Dashboard, a community plugin that runs through Decky Loader, the extension system for Steam Deck. The project, listed on GitHub as version v0.0.9-alpha, is still at an early stage, but it already offers many features.
The plugin replaces Steam's Home with the Xbox Series dashboard. Navigation uses LB and RB to move between tabs: My games & apps, Store, Community and System. Hovering over a game and pressing Y opens its page, with compatibility information, achievements and other details. The interface remains tied to Steam's games, so the library and platform features stay available.
Installation takes a few steps. After installing Decky Loader on the Deck, users download the plugin's ZIP file. From Quick Access they open Decky, go to Settings and General, and turn on Developer Mode. In the developer settings they select Install plugin from ZIP and choose the downloaded file.
Development used Claude, the AI assistant from Anthropic, as a support tool, and the project says so openly. The plugin remains an independent community effort, not a product of Microsoft or Valve.
Users who prefer a console experience to a PC one will find the plugin's interface closer to Xbox's. The Windows Central writer, who owns an Xbox Ally X, says he prefers this simplicity to what the Xbox app and third-party launchers offer on Windows.
It remains to be seen whether the project moves beyond alpha and whether a similar version reaches Windows handhelds such as the Xbox Ally X. For now the Xbox dashboard is a modification for Steam Deck, with the limits typical of unofficial plugins.
