The iPhone Duo introduces a special version of StandBy that works even without charging: placed half-open, it turns into a photo frame, a widget hub or a clock. Now an Android app called Foldy replicates the same idea on any Android foldable, from the Galaxy Z Fold 8 to the Pixel 11 Pro Fold.

According to 9to5Google, the most useful feature is the ability to turn any Android widget into a pane, opening the door to practical uses such as Google Home or music app controls. The app also recognizes when the device is partially open and resting on its side, and activates the StandBy clone as soon as conditions are right. The free version covers the basics, but the most useful options require a premium unlock of 90 cents a month or $9 for lifetime access.

Android Authority reports that the paid version unlocks more than 50 display options, including clocks, calendars, to-do lists, a Google Photos gallery and Google Home controls. This detail comes from a single outlet and remains to be verified in practice.

The parallel with Apple is direct. According to Apple's official page, iPhone Duo can enter StandBy on either the outer or inner display even when not charging, turning into a photo frame, widget hub or clock, with new Calendar and Weather faces alongside Clock and Modular. Foldy is an emulation built on what Android already offers on foldables, and unlike the original it does not depend on native hinge-position hardware.

The most interesting point is that tent mode is rare on Android foldables. The Motorola Razr Fold includes it in its always-on display, while Pixel offers something similar only while charging. With Foldy, any foldable can gain a feature that until now was exclusive to a few models.
