The new Coros Dura 2 Solar brings full navigation to the handlebars without relying on a smartphone: maps are downloaded in advance, turn-by-turn directions guide you, and the route recalculates automatically when you miss a turn. The computer costs $499 without a mount, or $549 with the mounting kit, and doubles the price of the previous model, which sold for $249.
The core promise is battery life. Coros claims up to 120 hours of recording with all GNSS systems active in standard mode and 70 hours in dual-frequency mode. The solar panel below the screen, 17% larger and 25% more efficient than the previous generation, can recover up to two hours of battery for every hour of sun, under the company's test conditions, which do not fully apply in winter. ZDNET's reviewer, after 12 days and nine rides, still had 80% charge and said he no longer worries about battery on his daily commute.

Navigation and safety
Routes are built in the Coros app on the phone and synced to the computer; maps must be downloaded beforehand, since no network coverage is needed while riding. If you leave the route, an alert sounds after about 20 metres and rerouting can be automatic. The device also pairs with rear bike radars, showing a green, yellow and red bar with vehicle outlines approaching, and detects riders coming up from behind.
Safety features include a digital bell triggered by a double tap and an alarm that sounds when the computer is removed from the mount, unless the connected phone is nearby or the PIN is entered. The alarm is high-pitched and hard to ignore, but its sound cannot be customised.
Controls and voice
The Dura 2 Solar has two large side buttons, two haptic buttons under the display and a 3.5-inch touchscreen, up from 2.7 inches on the previous model. Holding the left button activates voice commands, which can start or stop a ride, set training alerts and navigate to saved destinations. The touchscreen remains usable in rain, according to first tests by Bike and Tour.

Coros has announced an update in the coming weeks adding left-button customisation, voice notes, power-curve charts and tyre-pressure sensor support.
The computer supports Shimano and SRAM drivetrains, with Campagnolo support due by the end of the year. It can send data to Zwift, Strava, TrainingPeaks and other platforms, and training data can be exported to ChatGPT and Claude for analysis.
