The upcoming OnePlus 16 is shifting its focus toward extreme gaming performance with a new triple-chip architecture. While previous leaks confirmed the device's launch in October and its 200MP camera, as reported by AlexTech.ai, new details from Digital Chat Station reveal the implementation of three dedicated in-house chips designed to offload specific gaming tasks from the main processor.
The Triple-Chip Gaming Architecture
OnePlus is introducing a specialized hardware layer consisting of the P4 display chip, the G3 network chip, and the T3 touch chip. This setup is designed to optimize three critical pillars of competitive gaming: screen response times, connection stability, and input latency. The P4 chip specifically targets display fluidity, which aligns with earlier rumors of a high-refresh-rate panel targeting 185Hz or even 240Hz. To ensure these hardware gains translate to real-world performance, OnePlus has reportedly collaborated with FPS game studios to tune the system specifically for competitive shooters.
2nm Silicon and LPDDR6 Memory
These custom chips will work in tandem with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro (SM8975). Built on TSMC's 2nm process, this processor is expected to feature Oryon CPU cores clocked above 5GHz. A key differentiator for the Pro variant is its exclusive support for LPDDR6 RAM, which offers a peak bandwidth of 14.4 Gbps—more than double the 6.4 Gbps of LPDDR5X. This massive increase in memory bandwidth is critical not only for gaming but also for accelerating on-device AI inference.
Display and Software Integration
The hardware is paired with a new version of the Oriental Screen, co-developed with BOE. This 6.78-inch LTPO flat display utilizes LIPO packaging to achieve symmetrical bezels of approximately 1mm. The entire experience is tied together by ColorOS 17, which has undergone months of optimization regarding animations and resource management to ensure the interface feels as smooth as the gaming performance.
With these specifications, the OnePlus 16 is positioning itself for a direct performance battle in Q4 2026, particularly against the iQOO 16, which is expected to utilize the same high-tier silicon.
