Microsoft has added a new utility to PowerToys, Mouse Button Lock, which lets you drag objects without holding the mouse button down for the whole operation. The system keeps the click virtually active until a new press, so you can release the button.

The feature is aimed mainly at gaming and accessibility, where holding a button for long periods can be tiring or difficult. It is similar to ClickLock, the Windows feature that locks the left button after a long press. A GitHub request has long asked for an equivalent for the right button, called Right-Click Lock, but no such feature has been announced.

PowerToys release 0.102 also brings CursorHide, a second new mouse utility, along with snip dictation in ZoomIt, which processes text on the device, and WinUI 3 ports of Color Picker and Text Extractor. Other additions include an optional quick-access shelf for Command Palette and new command-line tools for automating PowerToys.

PowerToys is an open-source project that collects free utilities for power users on Windows, with tools such as FancyZones for arranging windows and PowerToys Run for launching apps from the keyboard. The new features arrive as Microsoft adds more customizable controls to the operating system, such as the customizable right-click menu coming to Windows 11.
