Turin hosts the fifth edition of the AI & VR Festival at Environment Park, with a programme that puts artificial intelligence and cybersecurity at the centre. The festival runs on 26 and 27 October and brings together operators, researchers and institutions around a theme that has become urgent for companies in recent weeks.

The agenda covers four areas: digital transition, investment, skills and cybersecurity. These are the same questions emerging from the latest news, where vulnerabilities are exploited with automated tools at ever lower cost.

The context is explicit. A critical PHP bug, identified with the help of AI, exposed millions of websites and led Dutch authorities to check for successful attacks, without confirming any abuse of Dutch sites. According to Cloudflare, attempted intrusions rose from thousands to millions after the fix was published. An analysis on Reddit claims a single attacker compromised over a hundred companies with AI agents, at around 50 dollars per site, a figure to be read as an estimate rather than a verified total.

On the organised crime side, the CyberCartel group reportedly used Claude and Grok to hit more than 400 Latin American financial institutions, bypassing protections under the pretext of testing in controlled environments. In Italy the pressure is real too: the cyber sector has already seen spending grow, and the issue of AI and deepfakes has already translated into multimillion-euro fraud.

In Turin the debate turns on a concrete question: how to defend a system when attacks become automated. The answer emerging from the festival runs through staff training, information sharing between companies, and investment in security before an incident happens.

The festival closes on 27 October, and the full programme of panels shows which speakers will bring their field experience.
