Buying AI hardware on Amazon can cost you your account. A user who goes by @nicksaraev says he placed four separate orders for NVIDIA's DGX Spark desktop AI supercomputer on October 31: all were cancelled, and Amazon then closed his account. In an email he shared, the company says it completed a verification process and, "after careful review", decided to close the account. The customer says he had never had a problem before and that customer service gave him only vague explanations.
Tim Sweeney's case
He is not alone. Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney says his regular orders were cancelled after he bought two NVIDIA GPUs. His account was not closed, but the deliveries never arrived: according to Sweeney, Amazon accepted the orders and cancelled them just before delivery.
The DGX Spark and its price
The DGX Spark is designed to bring NVIDIA's full AI platform to the desk, with 128GB of unified memory and the ability to run models of up to 200 billion parameters locally. The 64GB version starts at $4,999, while the 128GB version approaches $6,950. It was unveiled in March 2025 as DGX Spark, formerly Project DIGITS, and shipping began the following October, including through partners Acer, ASUS, Dell, GIGABYTE, HP, Lenovo and MSI.
Scarcity that favours resellers
The cause of the cancellations is unconfirmed. Amazon has not explained them, and it is unclear whether this is a glitch or an anti-scalper measure. With compute hardware in high demand and available in limited quantities, the second hypothesis is plausible: the platform may be trying to cap how many units one customer can buy. The picture fits a wider squeeze on memory: Amazon has already raised prices on Echo, Kindle and Fire TV by up to 60% because of memory-chip costs, and data-centre demand keeps supply tight.
The advice circulating on social media is to try a single DGX Spark first and order the rest after a successful delivery. For now, anyone buying local AI hardware on Amazon should expect that a cancelled order can become a bigger problem than a simple wait.
