HMD is preparing a refresh of the Fusion for Europe, and this time the work targets the original model's weakest point: performance. According to a leak posted by the account smashx_60 on X, the new model would drop the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 for Qualcomm's Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, a higher-tier processor that promises a noticeable gain in everyday smoothness. The overhaul does not stop at the chip: the European Fusion keeps intact the accessory system that defines the phone.

The most visible change is the screen. The panel would be a 6.56-inch FHD+ IPS LCD running at 120 Hz, replacing the HD+ 90 Hz display of the original. The jump is clear: more pixels and smoother motion, which translate into sharper visuals and more responsive scrolling. The leak also points to 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM, paired with 256 GB of storage and virtual RAM expansion.

Photography changes are more modest. The main camera stays at 108 MP, now listed with optical image stabilisation (OIS) in the leak; alongside it sits a 2 MP secondary sensor on the back and a 50 MP selfie camera. The 5000 mAh battery with 33 W wired charging would stay the same. The leak also mentions a four-year software update promise.

To understand the revision, it helps to look back at the original. HMD launched the first Fusion in September 2024 as an affordable modular phone designed to be repairable and customisable with so-called "Outfits". The mechanism is simple: accessories snap onto the Smart Pin on the back and add functions such as wireless charging, extra protection or a ring light for filming. HMD also offers an open-source kit so users can design and 3D-print their own cases. The processor and the 90 Hz screen were the most obvious limits of the first model, and the refresh focuses on exactly these two elements.

HMD presents the Fusion as a phone that adapts to different needs rather than one with fixed specifications. The leak does not clarify price or arrival date for the European market, which remain undisclosed. If the listed specifications are confirmed, the European version would be noticeably faster and more pleasant to use day to day, with a sharper display than its predecessor.
