Phantom Blade Zero has been out on PC and PlayStation 5 for less than a day, and modders are already at work. Within hours, changes appeared that go beyond cosmetics: they touch gameplay and add a technology the game does not ship with.

DLSS 5 support in one click

The game includes NVIDIA DLSS and Streamline plugins, but not the neural rendering runtime. The mod DLSS5 MOD Install with one click, published on Nexus Mods, adds the DLSSNR runtime and routes the game's existing DLSS calls through it, using ReShade 6.8 and the RenoDX DLSS addon. According to the page description, the mod does not touch the game archive, executable or save file, so it should remain safe through future updates. The project says it was tested on GeForce RTX 40 and 50 series cards.

Neural rendering with DLSS 5 usually needs extensive tuning, so it is too early to judge the final result. As early as August, modders had already unlocked DLSS 5 even on RTX 4000 cards, despite the lack of official Nvidia support. The first comparison shot, taken at the start of the game, does however show a more realistic scene with the technology enabled, suggesting real room for improvement.

Adjustable difficulty and parameters

The second notable mod is PBZ Tuner, which exposes a range of configurable values: enemy health and damage, the character's base stats, the perfect-deflect window, break durations, ultimate charge, rewards and even the forced loading-screen waits. Values are chosen in a browser page or by editing a text file, applied with F5 in game, and reverted with F7.

The options let players raise or lower difficulty and change the parry window. Adjusting enemy health also addresses one of the most common criticisms of the game: without a proper training mode and with no enemies respawning, it is hard to experiment with its many weapons. Toughening up certain foes provides that testing ground without hunting for new enemies.

Players who want a challenge from the first playthrough can also look at the mode that unlocks the highest difficulty, normally available only after completing the game once. It is not advisable to start a first run that way, since some bosses become very demanding, but the limited number of lives makes every encounter tenser.

What comes next

Wccftech, which called the gameplay the game's true highlight, says it would like to see a mod that brings back defeated enemies. The community has already shown how active modding around the game is within hours, and that could be the next step.
